Newsjacking is the term used by marketers to describe jumping on international events in order to sell unwanted and often completely unrelated tat. Whether it’s the Super Bowl, Black History Month, or just a good old fashioned school shooting, marketers can’t wait to slap a 50% off sticker across every date in the calendar month.
As it’s Valentines Day – a day developed almost exclusively to keep the landfill business booming – I thought I’d take this opportunity to look back at the very worst of V-Day newsjacking from the last 10 years.
